The River House was designed by William L. Bottomley of Bottomley, Wagner, and White and built in 1931 with handsome Art Deco decorative touches throughout the main floor.  There is a private motor court at the entrance for cars to pull into off the cul-de-sac on 52nd Street.  One is greeted by the superb and peerless staff.  The apartment has just been painted and the floors refinished.   An elegant entrance hall with high ceilings presents itself to the visitor. The apartment itself faces East, South, and West with a wonderful living room offering views over the East River and Roosevelt Island of James Renwick, Jr. Maternity Hospital, a national historic landmark. Also on the southern part of that island, one can see the Franklin D. Roosevelt, Four Freedoms Park to the south, designed by master architect, Louis Kahn.  There is also a view to the east of Long Island.  Views down the river to the south are unobstructed and offer grand vistas toward NY Harbor.  The living room marble fireplace is set into an exposed brick wall.  The separate dining room also faces south and west.  The windowed kitchen is large and could be modernized.  Of the three bedrooms, two are exceedingly palatial.  The master has an en suite bath and large walk in closet for a real clothes horse.  The second large bedroom has its own bath.  The smallest bedroom could be a study, an office, a guest bedroom, or a maid's room.  It has a half bath, but it could be converted to a full bath.  There is a servant's room not attached to the apartment with a shared bath in another area of the building that is rented by the owner for $1,000 a month.  The apartment has a private bin for storage in the basement.  Pets are welcome.  The River Club, a private club for the building residents, has a swimming pool, tennis courts, squash courts, a charming dining room with antique painted walls, and private rooms for guests.  This is an extra perk for owners, should they wish to join.  Dues are paid annually.
