THE RESIDENCE

THE ARCHITECT AND BUILDING

One of the most distinctive buildings on Park Avenue, this attractive 14-story cooperative was built in 1929 and features only 27 apartments designed by Rosario Candela and Kenneth M. Murchison.

Rosario Candela was the leading architect of luxury apartment buildings of his era. The red-brick faade of 1021 Park and the three-story limestone base and gargoyles are one of the many unique features to the design of this cooperative. 1021 Park benefits from a great amount of light and air due to the Park Avenue Christian Church diagonally across the avenue, and the neo-Federal Lewis Gouveneur Morris townhouse at 1015 Park Avenue, designed by Ernest Flagg.
