The Waldo-Coldwell House is an early example of period homes in Ipswich. The house was built in 1652 by Cornelius Waldo on the site where Simon Bradstreet, 2nd Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony, and Anne Bradstreet lived. Anne was America's first published poet. Her poems titled "The Tenth Muse, Lately Sprung Up in America" were secretly published in England in 1650. John and Sara Caldwell bought the house in 1654. The Caldwell family lived in the home for eight generations.     Many of the original details of the home were carefully restored. There are four original chambers within the house, two up and two down, each with working fireplaces. An extension was added with modern conveniences while upholding the uniqueness of the house. An open kitchen, master suite, C/A & energy efficient heating are now included. Mature landscaping and private garden spaces are present throughout the 1 acre in-town lot with easy walk to restaurants, shops and train.
