Austin Nichols House

184 Kent Ave. is an Egyptian Revival-style building in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It was constructed in 1914 and, for most of the 20th century, operated as a warehouse for various grocers, importers and manufacturing companies.

By the 1990s, it was dilapidated. But in 2000, the Kestenbaum family bought the Austin, Nichols and Company Warehouse for $4 million and converted the interior into studio apartments.

By 2007, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, it’s a luxury condominium.

Its affluent residents have access to about 30,000 square feet of amenity space. Offerings include a waterfront gym, kids playroom, roof deck, lounge with catering kitchen, expansive workspaces, movie theatre, music rehearsal room, zen garden with fire pit, and a building garage.

The interior includes 338 luxury condominium apartments, which range from studio apartments to three-bedroom suites. There is also 17,850 square feet of rentable commercial space on the first floor. A cafe area and enclosed courtyard are located within the building.

184 Kent, now known as the Austin Nichols House, is conveniently located on the North Brooklyn Waterfront and overlooks the largest stretch of the East River. Residents have direct access to the East River Ferry, North 5th Street Pier and the East River State Park. Should they opt for the subway, it’s just a short stroll to the L train.

Nearby Domino Park provides plenty of waterfront activities and outdoor relaxation with a stunning view of the Manhattan skyline as a backdrop.
