When Robin Bowden moved to New York City in the 1970's, she lived for a while in Gramercy Park and eventually bought a penthouse loft in Soho, Which was just becoming a residential neighborhood and was a terribly dynamic and a fascinating place to live. Trained as a dress designer in her native Australia, she started a fashion business and had a highly successful career selling and merchandising fabrics before she decided to move into real estate. From her earliest days in Soho and Gramercy Park, she has always been taken with cast iron architecture. Although she lives in a single-family brownstone now, the conversion of industrial buildings to residential space is something she finds not only exciting but extremely challenging, since while lofts and other open spaces can be extremely urbane and even exhilarating, they must also function well as living spaces, meeting the demand of couples and families who need privacy, comfort and flexibility.Robin Bowden knows Downtown Manhattan well.
