About Eric Houston

Thank you for inviting me into your home and into your journey. I thought it might be nice for you to know a little about me personally before we meet professionally. MY STORY I was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. I grew up with my mother in a small Jewish community (Crown Heights) right near Ebbets Field (home of the former Brooklyn Dodgers MLB team). Part of my childhood was spent living with my grandmother in St. Stephen, S.C. and when I was 13yrs old, I moved in with my father and stepmother in Houston, Tx. I graduated from Houston Baptist University with degrees in Spanish and Biology. Ask me how many languages I studied! In my spare time, I can be found playing a new tune on my clarinet (I just started taking lessons) or nurturing my 57 plants! Often found at my local garden center, I discovered a love for plants through my stepmother and grandmother. Ask me about my affiliation with the National Wildlife Federation! MY PURPOSE Growing up with a single mom wasn't always easy, but it was filled with fun. I have always believed in living a life that matters and making a positive impact on the lives of others. Ever since I was 13, I have spent time volunteering wherever I could. From hospitals, to senior centers to veteran and active duty military assistance programs, I continue to make serving people my passion. MY FAMILY I have been married twice and my first wife and I have two beautiful daughters and two incredible grandchildren. My second wife passed away just before our seventh anniversary after a chronic illness related to a surgical procedure took her life. Our favorite pastimes included cruising, road trips and entertaining friends at home...things I continue to enjoy even now. My second wife left me with one more incredible daughter and 2 sweet granddaughters. My family continues to be a source of great happiness and strength for me. I live a life of joy and gratitude. I keep good company with my many domestic and wild pets, enjoying not only dogs, cats and fish, but also the local wildlife that I support in my very own backyard... birds, butterflies and even a few bunnies!
