Take advantage of this rare opportunity to acquire a vacant lot in the Ames Hill/Crescent Hill Historic District. This 0.9927-acre lot was originally developed in the early 1870s by Jotham G. Chase, a lumber dealer. Chase finished his planned home's exterior, but never the interior-the home sold to banker Andrew Fennessy, who finished the home, but moved it to another location, building a new mansion on this lot before relocating to Boston. The mansion was next purchased in the late 1880s, by paper industry magnate Nathan Bill, the wealthiest person in Springfield at the time. The home became known as Nathan Bill House, and housed the Bill family until mid-Century, when it became a nursing home, then fell vacant, and eventually burned down, leaving the lot vacant, as it stands today. This historical tragedy is an opportunity for mixed-use, as the lot is zoned for residential/office use (to be confirmed by buyer).
