About This Property
A one of a kind property along the Sycolin Creek is home to a 1777
Stone cottage and a three-level barn that once served as a mill and
was built by the Quakers in 1778. The cottage has a charming front
porch, it invites you to stop and sit a while as soon as you climb
the stone stairs. The creek flows along the side of the cottage
about 100 feet away. The trees are so old you can practically hear
them telling stories of days gone by. Everything about the cottage
is charming; you enter into the "parlor" and are drawn to the wood
floors, thick glass windows and stone fireplace. At the back is the
kitchen with its sub-zero refrigerator and Bosch dishwasher, you
step down and it draws you in with the mix of old and elegantly
new. The end wall of the kitchen is a stone fireplace with a wood
mantel, it looks as if it once was the area for cooking and now
waits longingly for a fire to warm its stones and fill the cottage
with the sound and smell of an inviting fire. Out the kitchen door
to the back is a patio and the most amazing tree; all I can
think about when I look at it is how I want to stop and climb it,
sit among the branches and wonder about what it has seen. Stairs
from the parlor take you up to the bedroom where you find two
double beds and dressing tables with small chairs. There are window
type openings in the room, you'll notice them in the kitchen as
well and they no doubt served to allow the heat from the fireplace
to warm the upstairs. The bathroom has a stand-alone, claw foot tub
and a pedestal sink, a nice soak at the end of a long day is now
all you can think about. The cottage is very livable as it is and
would be a nice place to live while you turn the immense barn into
a showplace of a home. Wood and stone on all three levels. Dates
carved in cement plaques on the outside of the building. I was
taken by the feel of the barn and it's longing to be useful once
again. This isn't my usual description of a property and I thank
you for indulging me. I felt so many emotions as I walked through
the buildings and walked the grounds of this property. There seemed
to be so many stories that needed to be told and an urgency to find
that one right person who is meant to hear them. This unique
property will no doubt require a special person, one who craves the
history, the stories, and the feelings conveyed by a historic home.
Are you that special person?
