146 West 57th Street is a 68-story residential skyscraper in Manhattan. Construction began in 1984 and wrapped in 1987.

Nicknamed “The Metropolitan Tower,” this building — owned by Macklowe Properties and designed by Schuman Lichtenstein Claman & Efron — is considered “postmodern” due to its triangular shapes, tinted glass and a sculpted base.

Perhaps its most unique feature is its 48-story triangular tower whose longer edge points to Central Park on top of a 20-story rectangular base.

The building is also unique in that it has entrances at both 57th and 56th Streets. They’re connected by a passageway that forms part of 6½ Avenue, the first fractional street in NYC’s grid system.

Inside Metro Tower are some 235 apartment units, each one more luxurious than the next. A full white glove staff — doorman, concierge and maid services — attends to resident needs.

Those who live in the high-floor apartments may enjoy unobstructed panoramic views of Central Park.
