10 Madison Square West

10 Madison Square West is a 16-story tower built in 1915 and designed by William Van Alen, who went on to design the Chrysler Building.

Previously known as “Toy Building North,” it became 10 Madison Square West when real estate developers Steve Witkoff and Howard Lorber took over New York’s historic Toy Center, a complex of buildings that had some of the best views of Manhattan’s skyline (the Flatiron Building, the New York Life Building and the MetLife Clock Tower).

Today, it’s a luxury Flatiron residence complete with 125 condominiums that first went on the market in 2013. Its redevelopment wrapped in 2014. Before this, the building had been vacant since 2007 (Tessler Developments attempted to create about 190 units in the building but the plan fizzled).

The Witkoff Group ordered a new lobby with a grand staircase and a concierge desk. There’s also 10,000 square feet of amenity space including a 60-foot swimming pool and a hot tub; locker rooms for men and women, each with steam and sauna; a 2,000-square-foot fitness center and Pilates studio; and a children’s play-and-party space.

Units include one- to five-bedroom apartments, with prices starting around $1 million for a one-bedroom, and exceeding $25 million for the five-bedroom penthouse. Additions were made to 10 Madison Square West, or 10MSW, including 14 “tower residences” — many with terraces. Residences at the conjunction of Broadway, Fifth Avenue and 24th Street have living rooms with three-way panoramic views.

Architect Alan Wanzenberg, who worked with Witkoff on the development at 150 Charles Street, oversaw the building’s interior design. He used bianco Carrara marble tile, large-format white porcelain tile, wide-plank oak and reclaimed cedar.

Less than 500 feet from the building are the N/R/W subway lines.
