While we\u2019ve reported on a wide range of issues, including affordability, migration trends, and market health, we\u2019ve never explored where the country\u2019s most expensive housing markets are located. In this study, we pulled every real estate listing advertised in the United States so far this year, over 3.2 million, and sorted these properties by zip code. We finally ranked each zip code by median price, resulting in a comprehensive picture of the most expensive markets across the nation right now. Here\u2019s what we found.\n&nbsp;\n<h5><strong>Key Findings:<\/strong><\/h5>\n&nbsp;\n<ul>\n \t<li>94027 in Atherton, California is the most expensive zip code in the country for real estate, with a median price of $8,650,000<\/li>\n \t<li>The 100 most expensive areas are located in just 11 states<\/li>\n \t<li>Los Angeles has 10 of the nation\u2019s 100 most expensive zips, the highest of any city in the country<\/li>\n \t<li>41 zip codes have a median listing price of $2.5M or more<\/li>\n \t<li>When looking by state, California has 68 of the 100 priciest zip codes, followed by New York with 20 zip codes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<hr>\n\n&nbsp;\n<h4><strong>The 10 Most Expensive U.S. Zip Codes<\/strong><\/h4>\n&nbsp;\nMost won\u2019t be surprised at the top ten most expensive zip codes on our ranking, given their prominence as exclusive communities. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtyhop.com\/for-sale\/atherton-ca\">Atherton<\/a>\u2019s 94027, the most expensive zip code in the country at a median of $8,650,000, is located in the epicenter of Silicon Valley, and is well known to house the tech industry\u2019s elite. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtyhop.com\/for-sale\/fisher-island-fl\">Fisher Island<\/a>, an exclusive enclave off the coast of Miami with only a few hundred households, has one of the highest per capita incomes in the country, and a median list price of $6,500,000.\n\nAnd of course, Beverly Hills 90210 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtyhop.com\/for-sale\/los-angeles-ca\">Los Angeles<\/a> is arguably the most famous zip code in the United States.\n&nbsp;\n<div style=\"width: 100%; Outside of those zip codes in those two states, <strong>Fisher Island<\/strong>, <strong>Miami<\/strong>, was the highest at 2nd place overall, followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtyhop.com\/for-sale\/medina-wa\">Medina, Washington<\/a>, a suburb of Seattle, at 12th. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtyhop.com\/for-sale\/greenwich-ct\">Greenwich, Connecticut<\/a>, a wealthy suburb an hour outside of Manhattan, is the most expensive zip code in New England at 44th place.\n&nbsp;\n&nbsp;\n<h4><strong>Los Angeles is the Most Exclusive City in the Nation<\/strong><\/h4>\n&nbsp;\nLos Angeles commanded 10 of the top 100 most expensive zip codes in the country, making it the most exclusive city in the United States.\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtyhop.com\/for-sale\/beverly-hills-ca\">Beverly Hills<\/a> (90210) was the top zip code, followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtyhop.com\/for-sale\/bel-air-beverly-crest-los-angeles-ca\">Bel Air<\/a> (90077), and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtyhop.com\/for-sale\/pacific-palisades-los-angeles-ca\">Pacific Palisades<\/a> (90272).\n&nbsp;\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2896\" src=\"https:\/\/www.realtyhop.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/los-angeles-most-expensive-zip-codes-map.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\">\n&nbsp;\n<h4><strong>Most Expensive Zip Codes in New York City<\/strong><\/h4>\n&nbsp;\nNew York City also commanded some of the highest prices in the country, with 6 of the top 100 in its city limits. The top three zip codes in NYC were Soho (10013), TriBeCa (10007), and Chelsea (10001).\n&nbsp;\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2896\" src=\"https:\/\/www.realtyhop.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/nyc-most-expensive-zip-codes-map.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"334\">\n&nbsp;\n<h4><strong>Methodology<\/strong><\/h4>\n&nbsp;\nThis report analyzed the most expensive zip codes in the United States using over 3.25 million for-sale listings drawn from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtyhop.com\/\">RealtyHop<\/a> database during the period between January 1, 2020 and October 9, 2020. To produce the ranking, the median price for each zip code was calculated and sorted from most expensive to least.\n\nThe following building types were used to calculate median sales price: condo, coop, house, multifamily, residential, townhouse, and triplex. Any listings classified purely as \u201cland\u201d were excluded from the study.
