Welcome to Tivoli, New York

Where is Tivoli? With a population of just over 1,000 people and an area just over 1.5 square miles, the village of Tivoli in Dutchess County offers a small but vibrant community. This area resides on the east side of the Hudson River and has many tasty restaurants, adventurous activities, and beautiful real estate properties that bring tourists and new residents to the area.

A Brief History of Tivoli, New York

The Esopus and Sepasco Native American Tribes lived in the land now called Tivoli throughout the 1600s. Dutch colonists moved into the area throughout the 1700s and eventually settled in the docks and participated in American Revolution. Originally part of Upper Red Hook, Tivoli developed its own name when Peter Delabegarre purchased land along the river in the 1790s and planned to develop his own town under the name. He ran into financial difficulties, and the plans never came to fruition, but the village officially developed into Tivoli in 1872.

Many members of the community worked in the wool mills or harvested ice to sell down in New York City. The village continuously maintained a population of just over 1,000 residents throughout the 1800s and into the modern day. Today, residents of the historical village continue to appreciate their proximity to the water and find themselves appreciating the area’s natural beauty.
