NBA Superstars Winslow and Westbrook and their Luxury Homes
Previously in our Celebrity Real Estate blog posts, we have featured Ellen DeGeneres’ real estate empire, Lady Gaga’s Malibu gypsy palace, and the luxury mansion in Pacific Palisades owned by Jennifer Garner until 2019. Well, athletes, just like movie stars and other celebrities, can be very into real estate, too. Remember the luxury condo the world’s most famous soccer player Leo Messi just bought in Miami? Or how about the NBA legend Michael Jordan and his $29 million home in Chicago? (Unfortunately, this is not a happy story as Jordan has been trying to sell the property since 2012, and it is, after 7 years, still on the markets.)
In our blog post this week, we are going to give you a tour of luxury homes owned by two famous NBA players, Justice Winslow from Miami Heat and All-Star Russell Westbrook from Houston Rockets.
Justice Winslow – 506 Sunset Drive, Coral Gables, FL, 33143
After four great seasons with the Miami Heat, the team’s forward Justice Winslow finally scored a luxury home in the Miami-Dade County. The property, resembling a compound, spans over 7,000 square feet and features 6 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, and a swimming pool. Inspired by the Mediterranean architectural style, the home sends out a calming vibe, and the plant-covered exterior makes it even more welcoming, with a nice touch of great nature.
The interior of the house is equally breathtaking. Custom built in 2008, the house features 14’ high ceilings, Brazilian cherry wood, and marble floors, as well as a modern, open kitchen with a kitchen island, state-of-the-art appliances, and a spacious breakfast bar. Upstairs just off of the spiral staircase is the massive master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and 2 walk-in closets. The master bathroom is equipped with both a standing shower and a bathtub, along with his and her sinks. Oh, did we mention the three separate structures are connected by covered breezeways?
And of course, any athlete like Justice would want a grand fitness room. This compound offers a two-story gym and meditation room with a sauna, which is probably a good addition since Justice is currently dealing with a back injury. Other amazing features include two garages, a covered veranda, and spacious bathrooms for the guests.
The property was listed for $3,495,000 on December 6th, 2018 and was finally purchased by Justice this past October after being on the market for close to a year with a price cut of 5.6%.
Russell Westbrook – 11701 Cardinal Lane, Oklahoma City, OK, 73013
The 31-year-old eight-time All-Star player has been garnering press on his off-court moves recently. Westbrook, who led the Oklahoma City Thunder for over 11 years, seems to have some passion and talent not just for basketball, but also in real estate. Just around 6 weeks ago, he sold his modest home, a small, 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath house in Edmond, OK, for $430,000, 11.7% higher than its original price back in 2008. He is also known for other properties in Oklahoma City and in his hometown in Southern California.
Now, he is pulling the third property on the market – his longtime home located at 11701 Cardinal Lane.
Located in the suburb of Oklahoma City, this 5-bedroom and 5.5 baths estate spreads over 1.4 acres and features a beautiful pool, a hot tub, and putting green in the backyard. The mansion itself is recently remodeled, with a large open kitchen equipped with stainless-steel appliances, two kitchen islands, and ample cabinet/storage space. The main level also includes two master bedrooms, both coming with walk-in closets and spacious bathrooms.
Upstairs, one will find more space and another kitchen/bar area. But that’s not it. The house also has a theater room with six recliners, two study rooms, and of course, a room that can be used as a gym. What makes this estate stand out, however, is not just the spacious interior and living space. The outdoor space adds tremendous value to the property, with beautiful plants, manicured landscaping, and a small golf area.
This property was first listed on November 15th, 2019 for $1,695,000, which translates to $202/sqft. According to RealtyHop’s calculator, that’s $6,347 per month, including common charges, property taxes, and mortgage. It seems like a good deal for a gorgeous estate once owned by an NBA superstar!
